The C-Class in India can be had in five versions. You have the regular C200 petrol and the C220d diesel. And the more performance centric AMGs, in the 43 and 63 guise. Both these are petrol powered. And then, in the middle you have this – the C300d AMG Line. But, in terms of features, there’s nothing middle of the road about it. In typical Mercedes fashion, it gets a COMAND system with a non-touch-sensitivity central screen, but the screen is also a chest of information. You can access Navigation, music, Bluetooth telephony, and vehicle settings through this setup. Furthermore, the vehicle settings apart from letting you choose the colour and intensity of mood lighting, also shows you the instantaneous power and torque usage, and how hard the driver is using the accelerator and brake. One can turn off and on the various assistance systems like ESP and attention assist. And one can also customise the display from brightness to input options to language and the units used. There’s is a driver information system as well. The info it throws up is similar to the COMAND interface, but it’s not as detailed. The C300d gets a new multifunctional steering wheel which is electrically adjustable for reach and rake. It has touchpads to operate the COMAND system and the driver information system. here are electrically powered front seats, a dual zone climate control system with rear AC vents, an electric sunblind for the rear passengers, and cup and bottle holders all round. The C300d also gets many airbags, ABS, vehicle stability program, an auto parking brake, cruise control, auto wipers and head lamps, auto dimming mirrors, and enough smartness to tell if the driver needs to take a break of not! The Mercedes C300d AMG Line retails for Rs 59 lakhs and some change, on the road in Mumbai.
